"Sguardi puri. Filming a festival": Open call for short films

The 42nd Torino Film Festival and the University of Turin launch the call Sguardi Puri. Filming a Festival for the selection of 12 short film projects made by students who propose their own view of the Festival by identifying an element that characterizes its development and organization. The short films made will constitute a collective film made under the supervision of the Director of the Torino Film Festival Giulio Base.

  • Who can submit the project

The projects can be submitted by a single student or by a group with a referent.

  • Features

The call is reserved for projects for documentary and fiction short films lasting no more than 5 minutes, made in any format and entirely self-produced, which tell the story of the development and organization of the 42nd Torino Film Festival (for example: behind the scenes, the red carpet, the organization, the screening rooms, the arrival of guests, interviews, preparation phases, the public, the city during the Festival, etc.)

  • Submission

Projects must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on July 20, 2024. To participate, it is necessary to fill out the Google registration form in its entirety, illustrating in particular the subject or creative idea. After this date, the call is considered closed. FORM

  • Communication of selected projects

On August 1, 2024, the outcome will be communicated directly via email to the 12 referents of the selected projects. The notice regarding the outcome of the selection will be published on the University portal and on the Torino Film Festival website in September.

STEPS OF REALIZATION

  • October: training and preparation

The referents and crews of the 12 selected projects will be called during the month of October to participate in some training sessions intended to provide guidelines, ideas, and useful elements for the creation of the short film. The calendar of training sessions curated by Professor Mariapaola Pierini, Professor Giaime Alonge and the Director of the 42nd Torino Film Festival Giulio Base will be published during the month of September.

  • November: filming

Each member of the crews of the 12 selected projects will receive a badge to access all the spaces of the Torino Film Festival (22-30 November 2024) and to be able to film.

  • December-January: editing and post-production

By 10 January 2025, the referents of the selected projects must deliver by email a file in .mp4 format to be supervised by Giulio Base. A feedback session will be organized by the end of the month, during which Giulio Base will meet with referents and crews for advice and observations in order to optimize the finalization of the collective film.

  • February: Screening

Closing evening with official screening of the collective film at the Cinema Massimo as part of the UniVerso events program in collaboration with the Cinema Museum.
