The Stati Generali dell’Animazione will be held in Florence on Monday 8 July 2024, organised by Cartoon Italia in collaboration with ANICA and ASIFA Italia, and promoted by the Toscana Film Commission. A day of reflection and discussion to take stock of the situation of the sector also in light of recent legislative measures.
The situation of the animation industry in Italy has in fact changed a lot compared to the last Stati Generali dell’Animazione, held in Rome in 2016. The number of employees has almost tripled, companies have grown and some of them have become part of large European groups. Some of the objectives that emerged at the time have been achieved, others have not. Among the most important results is certainly the tax credit which, together with selective and automatic contributions, has been decisive in strengthening the weight of the industry on a European and international scale. However, the introduction of the animation sub-quota in the investment obligations of private media operators is still a missing objective. This remains the great structural limitation of the sector, both on an editorial and industrial level.
Since the driving force of the European animation industry remains co-productions, there will be analysis of strategies by the European Broadcaster Union (EBU) for the sector. The future approach of RAI towards animation will be questioned, including with regard to the production of feature films for theaters. Furthermore, the important support of the Film Commissions towards the animation sector and the repercussions that this has had in terms of increased youth employment and industrial growth of the companies operating in the individual regions will be remembered.
Precisely for this reason, the 3:35 pm panel "The Film Commissions: opportunities and critical issues" will feature Paolo Manera, in his dual role as Vice President of Italian Film Commissions and Director of Film Commission Torino Piemonte.
The day will be held in Florence at DogHead Animation, Manifattura Tabacchi - Via delle Cascine 35 from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Access is by invitation. For more information: www.cartoonitalia.it
