Until March 16th the call for 3 minuti a tema fisso - Bellaria Film Festival

The call for the competition “3 minuti a tema fisso: la natura ci guarda” (3 minutes with a fixed theme: nature is watching us) is open until March 16, within the 43 Bellaria Film Festival.

The Bellaria Film Festival is a renowned Italian festival dedicated to independent cinema, now in its 43rd edition. Originally conceived with the name of "Anteprima per il cinema indipendente italiano" (Preview for Italian independent cinema), the first edition took place in 1983 and over the years has included Morando Morandini, Gianni Volpi and Enrico Ghezzi among its directors. Many directors, both men and women, have passed through Bellaria Igea Marina and have found their success here.

The competition “3 minuti a tema fisso” has been a real testing ground for entire generations of Italian filmmakers, organized by the Bellaria Film Festival for more than twenty years, from 1985 to 2007. Each year, a theme proposed by the artistic direction called upon filmmakers from all over Italy to interpret it through their gaze. The only rule: stay within three minutes of time. The following people participated in the competition: Daniele Ciprì and Franco Maresco, Antonietta De Lillo, Paolo Sorrentino, Giogiò Franchini, Michelangelo Frammartino, Stefano Mordini, Luca Guadagnino, Yuri Ancarani and Samira Guadagnuolo.

The aim of the competition was twofold: to give opportunities and prominence to young filmmakers, who put themselves to the test with a low-cost format and to 3 minuti a tema fisso in which the Festival and the filmmakers lived.

La natura ci guarda is this year's theme: we are living one of the greatest moments of environmental collapse, of cataclysms and conflict within the human-nature binomial. This conflict is first and foremost due to the hegemonic action of the human being in the global natural ecosystem. Yet, nature, in its multifaceted manifestations, responds and imposes itself, reminding us that we are not the only agents to inhabit this world. Immersed in the internal contrasts of the ecosystem, can we imagine a possible world, a non-anthropocentric story? Can we identify a perspective, a vision, where the human being coexists equally with the other from himself? Is there a possibility of harmony between species in the natural kingdom? Or can our actions only erode and consume the ecosystem through the exploitation of everything that is other than us?

It is up to emerging directors to tell a new perspective, to show a new look that breaks the solipsistic boundaries of our species — that knows how to show them to us in another light, critical and aware. We are looking for a free and anti-speciesist point of view that can challenge the action of the human being in relation to the environment. A cinematic image towards a new idea of ecosystem and coexistence.

The Bellaria Film Festival selection committee will review all the short films that have arrived and that meet the requirements of the call: the 10 short films will be screened as an opening to the feature films in the Casa Rossa section. During the closing ceremony, all 10 films in competition will be screened and awarded by a jury composed of personalities from the world of cinema or industry who have distinguished themselves for their “green sensitivity”. All the short films entered will be shown on the Bellaria Film Festival Vimeo channel, subject to verification of their technical and artistic quality.

The prizes will be offered in collaboration with Futuristika Green, including, for the Best 3 Minutes, a prize of €2,500.
